2008 NFB of CT Scholarship Winners

Howard E. May Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $6000, went to Alex Snow from Newtown. Alex is a senior at Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts. His major is Information Technology. "My priorities this year will not only be academic success, but networking with future employers for permanent job placement."

Doris E. Higley Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $6000, went to Justin Salisbury, from Wilmington. Justin is a freshman at East Carolina University in North Carolina. He is majoring in Health Care and Public Health. "I had the wind knocked out of me and I still got up and ran."

Jonathan May Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $5000, went to Julianne Moore, from Danbury. She is a freshman at American University in Washington D.c. Julianne is majoring in psychology and neurological science. "I never let my disability disable me from being the person I need to be. My dreams are the one thing I've never lost sight of-the one thing I'll always be able to see clearly."

Mary Main Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $4000, went to Sarah Biglow, from Rocky Hill. Sarah is a senior at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. Her major is history, with plans to attend law school next fall.
"Being able to live on my own, manage my physical environment and support myself is the next step in becoming a successful, independent, visually impaired individual."

C. Rodney Demarest Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $3000, went to Patrick Heffernan, from Brookfield. He is a freshman at Mitchell College in New London, CT. Patrick is majoring in sports management, and is a champion weightlifter. "My goal is to work with others who have challenges but are fulfilled by the athletic experience."

The Brian Cummins Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 was awarded to Lynn Levins, a braillist from Monroe who is in her second year of study towards obtaining a degree as a teacher of the visually impaired from the program at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
