The Doctor's Office

By Anne Walsh

This is a doctor's office
With Chairs against the walls
And magazines on tables or on racks -
People read or sometimes chat
In subdued voices.

This is a doctor's office
And those seated are all here
For reasons unbeknownst to me
And some do wait in fear
To hear the doctor's message
The good or bad news
Will be revealed this day.

I am waiting also
While I wait I pray
For I am now a senior
Who wishes life to last.

We seniors have our interludes
Scares that we live past
We do bless the doctors
Who can give to us reprieve
From disability and disease
So that we can live and laugh and love again
With family and with friends.
