The National Federation of the Blind

Hartford Area Chapter

December 1, 2009 Update

The Greater Hartford NFB Chapter met to re-organize the chapter on April 18, 2009. . Eight people were in attendance. The members decided to focus on membership development, fundraising, and including fun activities. The following officers were elected: President: Barbara Blejewski; Vice President: Betty Woodward; Treasurer: Bruce Woodward; and Secretary: Carolyn Dodd.

The chapter has raised funds for the state affiliate through our mystery box, and scarf raffles. Members from our chapter also sold candy bars and home-made cookies at the Berlin Fair for the state affiliate. We also have raised money for our chapter through wrapping books at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Blueback Square in West Hartford. We will be having two additional book/gift wrapping fundraisers there in December and also plan to sell candy bars at various holidays during the year.

We enjoyed a lunch on June 17th at the Pond House Restaurant at Elizabeth Park in Hartford. We have also enjoyed shopping for high and low-tech independent living aids and computer hardware and software on a trip to Vision Dynamics. We are looking forward to our Christmas/Chanukah party at The First and Last Tavern in Hartford. Join us for our meetings every third Saturday of the month, from 10:00 A.M. to noon at Capitol Community College, 950 Main Street in Hartford. May everyone's holiday season be filled with blessings.

Barbara Blejewski
