The National Federation of the Blind

You Can Contribute to the NFB of CT

The National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut is an organization of blind people. We have as our major goal the improvement of the lives of the blind. Our philosophy is that with proper training and opportunity a blind person can lead a full and productive life.

We are a non-profit organization and do not use the services of a professional fundraiser. We are proud of the fact that, on average, we spend about 85% of our income for programs and services, the purpose for which we were formed.

We grant substantial scholarships to legally blind individuals who are full-time college students. We also offer grants to blind individuals seeking better career opportunities. It is a well-established fact that advanced education plays a key part in anyone’s future.

We offer seminars and presentations at both our state and national conventions on topics important to the blind. Examples include parenting of blind children, technology updates, issues concerning people with diabetes, people who use guide dogs, and the senior blind. Do you detect a common theme in all of the above? It’s called networking in today’s world.

In 1997, we introduced Newsline for the Blind in Connecticut. This free, versatile service enables blind people to read both The Hartford Courant and The New Haven Register, as well as over 300 newspapers nationwide and forty magazines, weather updates and job listings. Information can be received via a telephone call, via e-mail, on the Internet; there are many options available.

So often when a person becomes blind he or she finds it difficult to know where to turn for help. We want to share our knowledge and experience with every blind person looking for information. Our goal, quite simply, is to achieve a level playing field for the blind.

So, this is what we do with the money we raise. We need your help and we are asking for your contribution. Checks may be made payable to NFB of CT. Thank you.
