The National Federation of the Blind
of Connecticut
Greetings from Larry Alibozek

As you are aware, I have been recently appointed executive director of the Board of Education and Services for the Blind. Already I have had the opportunity to meet many NFB members; and I look forward to working with you in providing individuals, of all ages, who are blind, the best possible service to enable them to lead independent productive lives in their homes and communities.

A little bit about my background; I am a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a B.S. degree in education. I held several management positions at Cigna for more than nineteen years. These positions included providing direction and support to dynamic operating areas through periods of rapid growth and change.

My background and experience in state government is varied. I served as executive assistant in the Governor Meskill administration. I also served in the Department of Economic and Community Development; and as deputy commissioner, had a key role in reorganization of that department.

As deputy chiefs of staff to Governor Rowland, I was responsible for service delivery to constituents; as well as agency liaison for several departments among which were the Department of Children and Families.

I am very happy for the opportunity to provide the direction and guidance, which at this time is very important to this agency. I am fortunate to have an excellent management team who will provide insights and support; and, an agency staff that is dedicated and committed to the service of our clients.

During my first week, I had occasion to attend and participate in the Braille Task Force meeting, which took place at the legislative office building. After the meeting, at my invitation, several NFB members came to the agency where we had excellent informal discussions. I would like to take advantage of these types of opportunities to open the lines of communication; to share ideas and insights. It is through this type of dialogue that we will attain our goals for meeting the needs of our clients.

I look forward to ensure the continued excellent statewide delivery of meeting with all of you as we go forward services for all of Connecticut's citizens who are legally blind.

If you have occasion to be in the area, please feel free to stop by and say hello.
