The National Federation of the Blind

Coccomo Foundation
By Bruce Woodward

In September of this year we were honored to receive a check from the John A. Coccomo, Sr. Foundation for $12,500. Within the past years we have used their generous gifts to enhance our scholarship program but this year we requested their approval to use part of the $12,500 to help get Newsline up and running in the Stamford calling area. Not only did they give us their blessing, but the board of the foundation wanted to learn more about Newsline for the Blind. Information was given to them over the phone but nothing rivals a live demonstration. We had previously invited the members of the board of directors of the foundation to our annual banquet so we suggested that they join us at a slightly earlier hour, and so it came to pass that we were able to show off Newsline for the Blind to our four guests. As might be expected they were greatly impressed.

Following the presentation of our scholarships the chairman of the foundation's board, Angelina McGillivray, presented two checks totaling $20,000 to treasurer Bruce Woodward. What a wonderful surprise. With many thanks to the John A. Coccomo, Sr. Foundation we will now be able to introduce NewslineŽ for the Blind in Stamford by January 1, 2000.
