The National Federation of the Blind
of Connecticut
Resolution 2005-01

WHEREAS, the fourth necessity of life, after food, clothing and shelter is education by communication; and

WHEREAS, literacy is the bulwark of education; and

WHEREAS, the blind have long suffered in the progress of literacy; and

WHEREAS, Louis Braille, a totally blind person, invented the main system of Braille used by blind persons today: Now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut in convention assembled this fifth day of November, 2005 in the city of Waterbury, Connecticut that on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Braille Congress support a commemorative coin to be struck in honor of this pioneer educator; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Members of Congress hear from blind people, their families and friends about the significance of this honor.
