EDITOR'S NOTE: On February 16, 2006, Beth Rival and Carolyn Dodd did a presentation at Prince Elementary School in New Haven. Here is what Beth had to say:

On February 16th, my driver, helper, and volunteer, Ray drove Carolyn Dodd and me to Prince School in downtown New Haven. We met with Ellen Bedford, a member of the Southern Connecticut chapter and a teacher of blind children at Derby High School. The Prince School staff met us and we set up in the cafeteria in preparation to talk with 120 students.

I discussed the NFB and my guide dog, Carolyn talked about cane travel, and Ellen discussed how Braille works. Ray handed out Braille alphabet cards with paper towels and Honey-Nut Cheerios to each child while we explained how they could spell out their names with Cheerios.

The children got to ask questions; some were very curious about how I fed my dog and fixed my hair and outfits. They wanted to know our hobbies and sports we participated in. Carolyn talked about backpacking in Ireland and swimming, and I told them I water skied and liked pottery and gardening. It was a rewarding day for all and lots of information and Kernel books were handed out by Ray.

My thanks for all the support I received from NFB volunteers. My hats off to you.
