NFB Krafters Korner
By Joyce Kane
There is an interest among NFB members for the development of a division/group
of crafters and artists. The first step was to create a list for folks
to talk and share their ideas and talents. To be a member of this list,
please go to: http://www.nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/nfb-krafters-korner
and sign up to interact with folks on this list.
This list is for crafters and
artists to share their work, learn and teach others. This is a place to
share your "I can do it" attitude. On the first and fifteenth
of each month, we have "sale days". Items for sale must be related
to art and crafted items or supplies for such projects. You must put "for
sale" in the subject line along with that you are selling. Any responsibility
for sales from these ads is strictly between the sellers and buyers.
We hope to have our first formal
meeting at the 2008 National Convention in Dallas. Join us and help make
this happen!
Volunteer Readers
The community outreach office of the National Federation of the Blind
of Connecticut has compiled a list of volunteer readers throughout the
state. Through public service announcements on radio, television and newspapers,
many people have called our office and offered their time to read to blind
people. Any blind person who is in need of a reader for any purpose, call
our office at (860) 289-1971.
Scholarships
Jointly funded by the National Federation of the Blind of Connecticut
and the John A. Coccomo, Sr. Foundation, scholarships are available for
legally blind full-time college students. Call the outreach office for
an application. (860) 289-1971.
The Federationist
in Connecticut Accepts Article Contributions to Keep this Publication
Up and Running!
Send articles of interest to Esther Levegnale at elevegnale@sbcglobal.net
or mail to: NFB of CT, 477 Connecticut Boulevard, Suite 217, East Hartford,
CT 06108.
Books on Tape
A most generous lady has donated a lot of books on tape for our organization
to give to blind people who want them. If you would like a list of books
still available, call our outreach office at 860-289-1971 or email us
at info@nfbct.org.
In Your Will
If you or a friend would like to remember the National Federation of the
Blind of Connecticut in your will, you can do so by employing the following
language: "I give, devise and bequeath unto the National Federation
of the Blind of Connecticut, 477 Connecticut Boulevard, East Hartford,
Connecticut 06108, a state of Connecticut nonprofit corporation, the sum
of $________(or ______percent of my estate or the following stocks and
bonds) to be used for its worthy purposes on behalf of blind persons in
the state of Connecticut".
Teachers of the
Visually Impaired Scholarship
The NFB of CT values the importance of a sound education along with proper
reading and writing skills. In order to insure the availability of certified
teachers of the blind and visually impaired, we offer the Brian Cummins
Memorial Scholarship to college or graduate students enrolled in a full-time
program to teach blind and visually impaired students in Connecticut.
Visit our website: (www.nfbct.org) or call our community outreach office
(860-289-1971) for more information.
Interested in
Golfing?
Members of the United States Blind Golf Association (USBGA) believe that
being blind or visually impaired should not prevent children from learning
the game of golf or be the cause of adult golfers giving up the game.
If the activities of the USBGA are of interest to you, please contact
Ron Plath, Golf Development Director, USBGA at 503-635-3715 or rplath@easystreet.com.
